Kerala Institutional Ranking Framework

The Kerala Institutional Ranking Framework has been developed with the aim of creating a more democratic and secular approach to the grading and ranking system in Kerala. The framework has been launched by the Kerala State Council of Higher Education and KSHEC, and aims to release the rankings annually. KIRF is modeled after the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), which will be implemented annually by the Kerala State Higher Education Council (KSHEC). This initiative has made Kerala the first state in India to set up a ranking framework exclusively for its higher education institutions.

Kerala Institutional Ranking Framework provides various categories like:- Composite will categorize universities and colleges participating in engineering, management, architecture, medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, nursing, law and teacher education.

The ranking exercise will also include state-specific criteria and indicators to evaluate the quality of higher education institutions. Kerala Higher Education Minister R Bindu stressed that the ranking framework will focus on several key areas including teaching, learning and resources, knowledge dissemination and research excellence, graduation outcomes and outreach and inclusivity.

The KIRF rating system will assist the higher education institutions of the state to improve their ranking in the national and global ranking framework. Students looking for modern and innovative courses will be able to make an informed decision while selecting the college and program due to the ranking system. The framework was developed by a team led by Gangan Prathapan, former director of both CUSAT and CSIR.
